Hello permies!

20 years ago I bought a beautiful farm in the Ozarks.  Being a true permie one of the first things I thought about as I got to know the place is that there is room and opportunity here for more people. (share the excess).   I've literally been looking for people that long.  The stories I could tell you about people would curl your toes!  But, I won't.   Here we are 20 years later and I am not getting any younger.  (Don't let that worry you, I've been cutting and splitting my own firewood for over 19 years!)

I am looking for several young people who can/will/and want to  learn and eventually take over the local food production systems that I have growing.  Remember the idea of a tribe?   That's what I would like create here...a place where we all work together towards common goals...sustainability, healthy and happy living and anything else we want to add.  I'm sure you are all keeping up with the supply line problems and the toxic food supply in grocery stores.  We HAVE to create a new, regenerative way of life!

Let me tell you a little about the farm, and by the way, the Ozarks is a great place to live!  Lots of cold water, clean air, very few rules and regulations and people generally leave other people alone, altho people are small town friendly.

OK, back to the farm....159 acres, approximately half grass and half trees on hills, bottom land and upland.  Spring fed creek, spring fed small 100+ year old pond, several trickle springs coming out of the bluff.  Plenty of wildlife...sometimes even more than I want!

I have a couple dairy cows, their progeny to produce beef, pigs occasionally, esp when there is a lactating cow, plenty of chickens for eggs, one hive of bees, so far, and more swarm traps out.   All the animals get non-GMO feed.  Also have growing areas all over the place.  I truly do grow most of what I eat, and if SHTF, I could do without chocolate (god forbid!) and find things to make tea and 'coffee' out of.  I can tons of  food, and do some fermenting and dehydrating.  It's a good life!

There are a lot of things going  on here that I haven't mentioned.  There is a lot of potential and plenty  of ideas for the future.  Did I mention the greenhouse??

Here's what I am looking for:

young people who have a similar dream and want to be part of something bigger...
    people who understand working together
people who are energetic and self starters, not slackers or underachievers
    good  communicators
    compassionate, kind people
    healthy happy people
people who have skills to bring to the tale

If all of this tickles your brain with the possibilities, please respond!  Thanks for reading!

Lisa

hi Rachel, Sorry, no, not trying to sell, but I sure do understand your desire to get out of TX. I am wanting to create a small community.  Good luck with your plans.

Lisa, for the time being, Saint Louis City/County.  Looking into what is next.  Society is becoming a bit disappointing.  Perhaps I can take a closer look at what you have going and talk further...

Hello, My name is Stephen Palmer. My wife and I have been wanting to live sustainably and live a more earth connected life for many years. We almost moved to a North Carolina homestead several years ago however we were not truly physically ready for such a transition. Since then we have exercised often to prepare ourselves, we hike, go to the gym and eat only whole foods. We have started gardening at home as well as we have been looking at properties to purchase and turn into a farm. Along our research on building our own farm I got to thinking about communities like this as an option again. We already live as sustainable as possible while still being connected to corporate American life. We would be open to the possibility of joining your community. We also would enjoy and be more than willing to clear our own area, and build our own living quarters if this is possible and/or necessary, even after a few years living as a full member.

I have worked in carpet & Aluminum factories, Worked as a landscaper for 4 years doing all kinds of different landscape duties, worked as a cook in a couple restaurants, my father is a senior engineer and a mechanic, my brother is a life long electrician of which I have learned from both of them and worked as an electrician on low voltage home electricity. I maintenance all my own vehicles except for engine and transmission work. I grew up in rural north Georgia, spent many months on friend's farms helping out. My wife and I have a garden, hike, work out, and exercise daily. I cut down trees and log them when necessary for my family and hers. I fix everything I can instead of buying new things. I have done everything from plumbing, carpentry, metal work, and some light concrete work. I have some technical and computer skills. We both look forward to contributing in every way possible to further foster the integrity and health of the community. My wife is an excellent cook, she is also well versed in inventory management, as she managed a 7-11 for 7 years. Currently she manages a Boot store.

We believe in limiting consumption of consumer goods where possible, being as healthy and sustainable as possible. We enjoy open non bias intellectual conversation about any subject. We are not religious or overtly politically minded however. We believe in being good people to those around us and we wish to live in more harmony with nature.  We want to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Hi Lisa, my wife and I are looking to make a change and we could possibly be a good fit for what you have going on.

If you are still interested in people please get in touch so we can determine whether we are a good fit or not. Or, if you or anyone else reading this knows of any similar opportunities from Missouri Eastward we would be interested so please get in touch with me. michael.l.savage@gmail.com

Hi Lisa, what type of community are you trying to build, the more details the better, it sounds like you have mostly been working on personal food production. I know everybody has their own ideas of what a small community joining together looks like so just want to make sure we don't waste your time with conflicting ideas. Thanks

I have a hundred acres just outside of west Mountain Grove off hwy 60.  You must be off hwy 95 ot hwy 5?   My husband and I envisioned a similar gathering of sharing the land - lives shared.  Would you be interested in meeting and see how we might find ways  we could work together to benefit both our dreams?
Not sure how contacting each other works on permies.

I bought big piece of land in the ozarks too envisioning something similar to what you are describing.  No luck getting it to work out so far.  I'm in Reynolds county.  Hey can you tell me if you got the ticks where you are at.  My place is crawling with a pandemic of ticks, you cant go out there in the warm season they are so bad.  Advice?

Hi Lisa,

I’m a young 53 year old widow. I like getting my hands in the dirt, but I’ve never farmed. I did grow a great batch of Kale in my backyard one summer. My daughter has auto immune disease and so I have learned first hand how good clean food can heal and the opposite. I am looking for more of a homestead lifestyle. I’d love to converse offline. My email is
pattersonmelissa73@gmail.com. Thanks.

Hello Cody.
Try getting some chickens and other yard birds.
They'll help you with the tick problem.

Also, I'm searching for land out your way.

Hello Lisa Rollens!

I have 5+ years of gardening and livestock experience as well as having a library of information on many different trades that I have experience in. I currently own my own landscaping, garden, and tree service business. My wife and I desperately want to move out of the desert here in Arizona. We are pursuing a live on-site work/trade position. I specialize in low-budget survival gardening. If interested, please call/text Mark at Mowers&Growers 928-641-8565. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Mark Steagall

Hi, I’m Jayk, moved up to this area a few months back. You describe the kind of community I always wanted to live in. And with the exception of “young,” I feel reasonably certain fit the descriptions below. At the very least, I just wanted to say hello and establish some connections with similarly minded people in these parts, as I don’t know many people still here. 😊  jdgray2077@gmail.com for anyone who wants to reach out.

young people who have a similar dream and want to be part of something bigger...
   people who understand working together
people who are energetic and self starters, not slackers or underachievers
   good  communicators
   compassionate, kind people
   healthy happy people
people who have skills to bring to the tale

Update

Hi everybody,  just a quick update.  I still haven't found any people yet.  I don't take it personally tho, because hardly anybody  has actually come here to visit.  I know there are folks around, but  they seem to be going other places...or maybe just 'looking'??  I don't know.  But what I do know is that things are getting really bad in this country and I am finding an urge to grow a lot of food!  This is still a beautiful farm and I really could  use some help.

Holler if you are interested!  Lisa

I'm single and not really ready to settle down at this point, but I would love to visit your farm and potentially become friends if you're up to that. I have a similar vision and want to find other people to network with.
