Hi, Wild Food enthusiasts! Can we show off what we are foraging for during this abundant autumn!? Who can pick a rainbow of foods and snap a delightful pic? Is this art? Or gathering?? Maybe both!! Whaddya got?

I made a video for these berries, in case anyone here would like to learn new berries to add to their rainbow!

I've been all about persimmons (berries) & medicinal herbs, like the late-season flush of mullien, goldenrod, and late boneset.

PAW PAWS!!!

I've known where several wild patches are for a few years. Found them on the forest floor last Saturday!

Most of my herbs will be dried to use in tinctures and teas, poultices, soaps, balms, & salves.

The persimmons were smashed into pulp, minus seeds & skins, measured out, and frozen. After John is done processing all the meat from the lambs & (hopefully deer), and I'm done with fence, gate, & barn repairs (so the goats & sheep can go back in, for the winter), I'll have time to pull my treasures out of the freezers, and start making jam & such.  That's my goal for the persimmons - jam.

I really appreciate your seasonal perspective, Carla. I've been trying to figure out how to balance foraging/harvesting/farm care and family care for a few seasons, never really satisfactorily managing it through the frantic part of fall, right before the frost. Then I'm bored in the winter. This, simple, freezing step may allay some despair. Thanks!!

My pleasure, Rebekah! There are quite a few time-sucker things this works with, like tomatoes, peaches, plums, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, even grapes.
