Help!

I've figured out a happy face : - )

A winky face ; - )

A grin : - D (which can come across as downright creepy in some circumstances)

But I can't figure out a laughing face! None of the standard ascii contructs seem to work here!

Signed,
Perplexed Face, with Dazed and Confused overtones, Throwing Up Hands and Shrugging Shoulders

This post here might help: https://permies.com/t/90752/emoji-translation-service#751267. When you make your post, make sure to unclick the "disable smilies" option (it's above the "submit" button). If you're using the "quick reply" option, it defaults to having smilies enabled.

(You can blame me for why it's hard to figure out what the smilies are here on permies).

Smilies are different than emojis. I'm never really tried to incorporate emojis into my posts, but I think you can copy and paste an emoji and it'll sometimes come across. Not everyone's systems have all emoijis, so sometimes when someone uses an emoji that my computer doesn't support, I just get a mystery character.

I hope that helps!

My favorite laughing face is which you get by typing : rolling: without the extra space. I use it a lot!

If  I want to use an emoji like the "Face with Tears of Joy" emoji 😂, I google it and then select and copy the character that shows up. Since I'm on a desktop computer, that seems to be the easiest way to get it. There might be easier ways, though

I just google the emoji and copy and paste the character I want.

Right on, thanks Nicole! I meant smilies/emoticons not emojis. Now I have new toys to play with. Woo!
