Does anybody just kind of wing it (pun intended) with chick starter feed? I don’t have commercial feed easily available to me. So far I’ve been blending a mix of seeds, nuts, sourdough bread, kimchi, veggies, beans, lentil sprouts, tuna … what I have in my cupboards plus leftovers and sometimes some bugs the kids find and add to the cage (but they’re not yet free ranging so it’s minimal). I know price wise it’s probably more expensive than starter feed but I feel like real food and a wide variety should probably cover all the bases, unless I’m missing something?
Also ACV and garlic in the water.
Would like to hear if anybody else has had success with this and/or regularly does it thanks for you input !

All that, plus let them free range with mama present, even if it's just in a little temporarily fenced in area in the yard. As long as the right foods are available, mama chicken will make sure her chicks get what they need.

I like to recommend microgreens and sprouts.

Here are some threads for folks who might be interested in other ideas for chick/chicken feed:

It's my opinion, for what it's worth, that if you provide enough variety they'll get what they need.  Even more so if they have a mama around.  Chickens will basically eat anything, even each other.

This is how we like to start our chickens out...

Get them going on the good stuff right out of the gate!
