Last summer we got a one year old pup from a shelter. She is a Border Collie/German Shepherd mix.   While I was working in the garden one of our pigs decided to visit my wife on the back deck. My wife yelled for me to help. She didn’t need to.  By the time I got there the pup had herded the sow back to her pen.  I can’t tell you how proud she was of herself. She is by far the smartest dog I have worked with.

I had a lab, chow, weimaraner, border-collie mix...smartest dog I ever owned. I think it's mainly the Border genes that influence that.

Without a doubt the Border Collie part is major. But, at one point the sow turned on her.  The pup said, “We can do this nice, or we can do this ugly.”   I suspect that was the German Shepherd part.

Your pup sounds worth bragging about.

Border collies are team players but also full of ideas, I had a hard time keeping up with my border collie mix rescue best friend.

"Dudeman" - he earned the name ... "Dude?! Man!"

oh these creatures - teach us so much.

Thanks for sharing about this amazing pup.

A shining example.
