I just found this site a few weeks ago, and have been reading many of the posts, articles, etc. My partner & I have 40 acres in the Ozarks in a very rural county and we moved here from the frozen North 3 years ago.
The climate here is wonderful for growing stuff ... zone 6b/7a with historic average precipitation of about 50". We have seasons, but since we've been here there hasn't been a day (even in January) when the daytime temperature didn't get above freezing. We have a large garden, an orchard (not producing yet), a large flock of laying hens, dairy goats, hair sheep, a milk cow and our beautiful GP guardians. We are committed to producing as much of our food as possible and we have made a good start. We are also committed to living gently on the Earth and leaving this little piece in much better condition than we found it.
I look forward to participating in several of the discussions and hope that I can bring some positive input. I'll probably do most of the posting since my partner has her own interests and we just don't seem to have enough time to duplicate effort .

Thank you all for the welcome. I look forward to learning new things here on permies.com and hopefully contributing a few ideas here & there.
Time to go start chores.

It's weird that we cook bacon and bake cookies. Eat this tiny ad:
