I am looking into agriculture apprenticeships. There are many options. Would an agriculture apprenticeship with a certificate beat competition for a farm management position with graduates with a degree in agriculture since an apprenticeship is hands on learning along with classes? Agriculture degree vs certificate with an apprenticeship? The dairy grazing apprenticeship is us department of labor certified and offers a certificate. The agriculture apprenticeships i looked into that offer a degree just do crops and no livestock. There is a vocational agriculture apprenticeship that does 9 months each for livestock and crops but does not offer college credit but does offer a very good set of coursework. https://www.glynwood.org/what-we-do/farm-training/apprentice-program.html

I would suspect that the size and type of the operation in search of a farm manager would weigh heavily on this choice.  Very large farms may want college degrees not only in livestock/crop production, but also in business management of some sort.  Smaller operations will likely appreciate the certification, but also will be interested in past references for managerial and supervisory skills.  For a small organic/permie type operation, perhaps working for a spell with one of the seed companies or commercial livestock producer and learning the ropes from within -- and then using those references to move forward to a new operation -- may suffice.  Best thing at this point would be to set up some in-person or virtual interviews with other farm managers who oversee the types of operations you may be interested in to see what kinds of background training that had obtained before being hired into their current position.  Good luck!....

It wasn't my idea to go to some crazy nightclub in the middle of nowhere. I just wanted to stay home and cuddle with this tiny ad:
