Hello to Ontario Permies,

Hope everyone is having a great growing year so far.

I am new to this forum. I am coming here to connect with like-minded folks in my region. I would love to know a bit about you and get a sense of how many folks in Ontario are active on this site.

I'm an ecological farmer/ homesteader, 11 years on the land. My homestead area is permaculture designed. I continue to engage in projects as I expand out towards building the ecology on my land.

I tried to attach a photo but, it didn't show up in preview.

Look forward to learning and sharing with you all. As well, learning to use this site. If I haven't acknowledged your response, it's because I have not figured out how! Yet!

Thank you,
Michele

Hi Michele,
I'm in Norfolk county and just moved here from near Stratford. ( was there 14 years) I've got nearly an acre and it was mostly open so I'm starting with a pretty blank slate.
We moved 60+ pots and I'm already at 40+ new trees and shrubs for this year so it's going to be a busy year!

I'm focusing mostly on as many native food production plants as possible along with lots of fruit nuts and berries. I also do some annual veggies, especially tons of tomatoes. No livestock at this time, and probably not anytime soon. I love cooking and preserving with the garden goods!

It's great to see more local people here and permacultureing their own food.

Wow. Sounds like you are happily engaged in setting up your piece of land. I do hope Norfolk has been getting the rains we have had here: so glad to have them after the dire predictions of El Niño. It's a great life and Norfolk is lovely.

I'm in Shannonville, ever so slowly setting up my homestead.

I have some pigs and chickens and gardens.

Hello Dave, I currently just have cattle though I have had sheep, geese, chickens up until last year or so.  I downsized after the concerns about El Niño but, I now feel El Nina has arrived early bring wonderful rains and helping this region anyway avoid the droughts so concerning in other regions. Letting the rains do their magic and reducing grazing pressure has seen so many soil seeds catch hold: I feel the world is abundant and the barnyard feels like a thick carpet! Later this year, I will bring back chickens and geese:) I note the fruit trees have set a lot of fruit this year. I hope you are experiencing the same.
