Hey folks, I noticed a curiosity: when using Firefox in both Linux Mint 20.1  and Debian 11.10, the Leaderboard icon in Forums flashes for a moment and disappears. Using Chromium on the same platforms, it appears as normal. Fiddling with ad blockers Ghostery and uBlock Origin (active on all systems in both browsers) has no effect. I wonder why.

My shallow vanity can't handle the strain of not knowing! (I kid, I kid )

I run 64 bit software:

  Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS
  Firefox  128.0 (No extensions)

The leaderboard appears normal for me.

It's really a non-issue, just an oddity.

If I refresh the main forum page and move quickly, I can click on the icon before it vanishes and it works fine.

Out of curiosity, I'm going to disable all ad blockers, do a system purge with BleachBit, reboot and see what happens.

EDIT: Oooh, wait, I forgot I added DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials to Firefox on the Linux Mint 20.1 system. Disabled it, refreshed the page, and my Leaderboard icon is right where it's supposed to be.

I'll play with the 32-bit Debian system later and see what happens (Raspberry Pi Desktop, running off a USB stick).

firefox windows 10 - loads okay.

But no plugins active or adblockers.

Don't suppose there's a way to turn off the plugins and see if that's the issue?

Do you have ads turned off via the pie feature or an ad blocker?

Ah, I should read to the end of the thread before asking questions.  One day I'll learn.

Haha, I'm no better -- trying to compose essays while the thread roars onward like a river in flood.

Ghostery set to "Block All" still lets them through.

DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials blocks them.

I think uBlock Origin blocks them as well. I will check.

I'm viewing the BB in Firefox running in a Linux container under ChromeOS on a ChromBox. I'm seeing the same exact thing. Yep, click refresh and the icon briefly appears then disappears.

I'm using Privacy Badger and DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials. When I disable DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials and leave Privacy Badger turned on, the icon does appear.

So that may narrow the issue down to some type of privacy setting. What's different about that icon that upsets DuckDuckGo?

I just noticed that the leaderboard is missing on my PC too - now firefox under linux

I know I have ad blockers and various other security stuff set up by my sys admin (husband)...

I'm pretty sure my raspad (rasberry pi /chrome) does show them though, so that is odd. I'll have to double check later.

Now on my Raspad (chromium browser) and I have the leaderboard back....Same network, so I guess it is down to the browser settings.

FWIW, if you need your vanity stroked (or crushed) you can search for "Leaderboard" on the main forum screen and on the search results screen there will be a link up at the top in the fine print.
