Have you ever used the warming drawer?

Okay, I got a bit bored and read the oven manual.   Apparently the drawer under the oven is a warming drawer.  Some even have an element and a way to control the temperature even when the oven is off.

And here, I thought it was for storing metal trays.

Anyone out there actually use it for warming?  Warming what?  Plates or keeping food warm?

Would it work for proofing dough?

I had that exact aha moment some years ago when I was cleaning a stove at our old house and spied the warming element. We bought a kind of fancy stove when we redid our kitchen so it doesn't have a drawer like that, but previously we always just stored pans or cookie sheets or whatever in it.

Proofing sounds like a smart use if it's stable at the right temp, but we now use the air fryer for that.

The problem with the warming drawer my kitchen range is that it only works when the oven us on.   That, of course, means we need to be baking something. …or using the oven for the sake of the drawer.

We do have a fireplace in the LR. It was a large hearth which is perfect for warming, helping bread rise, etc. that is in the winter. In the summer, we help the bread along with an ice chest and a Mason jar of hot water.

Back to the warming drawer. Yes we use it to store cookie sheets and the like.
