I made a post in the unapparent disability thread https://permies.com/t/80/269166/personal-care/Unapparent-disability#2843801 but thought this topic didn’t really belong there and so am moving it over here.

I have had acute insomnia often enough and eventually something changed with it, an interaction with meditation practice. I think that we are pushing ourselves so fast ordinarily, that when we have low energy from sleeping less, we are left with a feeling of restlessness and suffering and our minds can’t keep up with the normal emotional stress. But when we relax into the sense of low energy, something quite astonishing happens, a very meditative state arises. The body’s tension melts, the breath grows slow and deep, the senses become sharp, the world appears more vivid and alive, the mind is calm and clear, and spiritual or non-dual states of awareness are more easily accessible. Even to the point of ecstatic bliss. And then there is a remembering of important central things that normally get forgotten. It gets easier with practice. Make of all of that whatever you will…

I’m sort of hoping maybe some people with insomnia will benefit from these instructions on adapting to poor sleep… one of the reasons for my sharing this experience.
