One day I might get chickens that are not hand+me-downs.
I thought  about what I would value most in a breed and decided on digging.
I would like layers but I value my chooks mostly for their composting abilities


So, if you have had chickens that scratched and dug too much, what breed were they?

My Australorps can really scratch. They seem to be much more willing than my other breeds to dig into woodchips and to move material around.

When my chickens were not destructive enough the destroy the grass in my orchard, I got turkeys.  They did a great job!
