Down in our field, we have a small building.
Many years ago, it was built as a tack room.
Then it became the Jeep parts room.
Then we put a shed roof on one side and parked a 16' travel trailer underneath for our teenage son to live in.
Then the boy and trailer moved out, and the building became the Subaru parts room.
Now we had a covered area under which to park our craft show trailer!

By this time, about 25 to 30 years had breezed by, and the shed roof posts were showing their age.
First, one post started giving up, so I replaced it.
Then the funky cross piece started sagging, so I added a 4x4 with a spreader to support the cross piece.
The center post was shot this spring, and the other cross piece was sagging...

Now that I am retired, I have time to actually fix things rather than band-aid them.
Having a deck of long logs for firewood nearby, it was easy to choose new posts and a larch cross beam.
Two pier blocks and some rebar for the posts to sit on.  I peeled the larch log to remove any remaining bark.

I built the new support system 8" or so inside the current supports.
Once everything was assembled, I simply knocked out the old posts, allowing the roof to "drop" 3-4" and sit securely on the new support system.
It worked like I had planned it that way!
Now that it is properly repaired, our little trailer is out of the snow and safe from a collapsing roof!

I won't be repairing that roof 25-30 years from now; it will be the boy's project.
Hopefully I'll be sitting up on the front porch watching them, perhaps napping...

Nice repair!
I love old sheds!
We have similar although the 'repair' was done before our time and further repair has not risen to the top of the list for some reason.  The shed has a solid roof but I think it's the oak siding supporting things rather than the corner posts.

I do make sure the lawn mower is protected under my metal planting table when we expect any amount of snow...

Brilliant, Thomas! Every nook that gives protection from the elements is worth its weight in gold.

He was giving me directions and I was powerless to resist. I cannot resist this tiny ad:
