Good morning!

I recently completed the Make 20 ft of Twine BB (link to my post here) and got really excited about all the possibilities for making homemade dog (and cat) toys. I made my twine out of grass, which is apparently not the strongest, but was still able to get a decently strong tug-of-war rope out of it. I've also started processing wool and hope to make some little wool balls for my cats, which is one of their favorite things to play with.

Anyway, I started wondering what other ideas people have had for making homemade dog and cat toys out of natural materials or just anything toys you've made that you're proud of.

Hal, if I lived closer to you I'd commission some of those grass ropes. My dog's favorite thing to eat is grass, and he would love the heck out of that thing (it might not last more than a minute, but it would be a moment of bliss!)

Looks like you're onto something very interesting! Made out of really tough grass, those ropes would last longer and be super ecological!

Here are my experiences:

The best cat toy ever is a walnut. It makes a funny sound when footballed with and it skids and bounces in an unexpected manner.

The favourite toy of my dog was a bone ring. Imagine a short-ish piece of beef bone with the marrow chewed/licked out. My dog would take it in his mouth, then shake his head to rattle it within his mouth (he is BIG. Like really big). Toss it in the air and catch it. He found it the most awesome thing ever. And then he buried it, somewhere, never to be found again.

Get me the mayor's office! I need to tell him about this tiny ad:
