I can't stress enough in northern Minnesota (USA) and quite likely shared by many Canadians how cold weather marks the end of 'mosquito season'! :-) At this point, I don't really look forward to summer except as a good time to grow things,.....and it has become the season of anticipation for the arrival of fall. Most garden harvest is done by the first frosts of September, which knocks back the bugs, heralds the emptying of the local state parks, and the beginning of beautiful days of kayaking on the many regional lakes and rivers. The long dark evenings of winter bring REST!....and baking, experimenting with new cuisine, and engaging with the drama of Great Plains blizzards.
