Historically, this report is unassailable. It has happened... repeatedly... for the reasons they report. And now we have the hallmarks of a civilization ramping up to collapse.
Why? Because we hoard and consume the surplus, rather than sharing it and recycling it back into the Earth's systems.
Who survived these previous collapses? I think those who are closest to the primary production of basic needs survived the best. Those who knew how to maintain their own lives. Also, staying out of the path of rampaging hordes of starving people probably helped.
