Anybody here grow Asian persimmons? I have no experience with these trees, but I'm thinking about starting some from cuttings this winter, and so I'd like to learn a bit more before I get started. I especially would like to hear from people with good  varieties for the Pacific Northwest.

From what I understand Persimmons do not grow from cuttings.  I buy rootstock from some of the universities and graft.

American persimmons are easy to grow from cuttings, but I was told Asian persimmons are next to impossible by a friend who used to run a large tree and greenhouse operation.

In the past I have grown them from the seeds in store-bought persimmons.
I wanted to do that again this year and bought 2 persimmons. Sadly, NO SEEDs!

We have two asian persimmons.
Both are out of sync with our weather and have had their first young leaves frozen repeatedly so that now, after more than five years one is growing from it's root stock which I think (hope) is american persimmon and the other is still growing above the graft and had a few unfruitful blooms this year.  Both are only around four feet tall.  They have become a novelty and I have no expectations but they can stay...any trees are welcome.

Our local American Persimmons leaf out late, quite awhile after last frost.
