There has been talk about hydrogen vehicles at various points in 20th and 21st centuries, but never any commercial success. Not that I am saying it could not be done. Just that it is not a secret or forgotten technology so much as one that has been investigated repeatedly but not yet successfully developed.

Portability, density, seem far more plausible. Lot more to the hydrogen story, be my guess.

Have to add, plenty of horrific tragedy over the years with gasoline. Never slowed a profitable idea.

Yep.  You hit that nail squarely on the head.   Fossil fuel companies dominating the messaging and our country is swallowing this hook, line and sinker.  Department of Energy says no more renewables.  Higher power bills for the common man as a result? but unlimited power for AI data centers, hmm.
