The Soursop.......  Annona muricata L. Read about this tree and cancer......

I am trying to track some seeds now. Aparently grows very easily in Mexico and warmer parts of the States.

I'm sorry, "one of" the biggest drug companies? Which one? I would have much more faith in an article such as this if there was no mention of a report to buy or a product that's just become available.
If this was a real cancer cure, it would be profitable to import, patented or not. So where is it?

i do not believe it. who would ever do such a thing? big business? no! big government? never! enough of that.

Also check out the sister plant to the Graviola. The Pawpaw. They both have similar cancer fighting effects. I do know that a researcher studied the pawpaw, when to harvest, which parts, different trees, the compounds, their effects on cells, cancer cells, etc. He spent years doing it. The extract is now available in a capsule. So, in the end, there are people making money from the plant and the guy could just be a hype leader.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graviola
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pawpaw

will post more if anyone is interested.

Google it....  then see if you think it is worth a try. Maybe then you can get to name the "one of the biggest drug companies"..... if you think it is worth it.

How much gain to Cancer Pharmaceuticals if you can plant a tree and drink a tea from its leaves? You think that will outweigh what they aim to make with chemo cocktails? It is available here off the shelf in health stores... but we are a very health conscious nation.

I have a friend in Texas trying to track seed for me. It grows very readily in Mexico, the Caribean and Virgin Islands I have read so far. It is used straight off the tree. The young leaves are often boiled and added to the bottles of little babies to aid a restful night when fretful. Reminds me of our Rooibos tea which does the same. Medically proven to stop colic. I drink this tea every day. It is reputed by medical research to double any Glutathione you have in your body... I have found some positive changes going for me since adding teas to my diet. My story... believe it or not. Offered to help and no money made off you.

Unfortunately there is so much of this type of thing now ... heard too many stories of research thrown out or quenched because it would not yield high financial profits for big business. Cancer research is big business and no-one gets to mess with it easily. Ever heard of Rene Caisse? A simple Canadian nurse who ran a cancer clinic successfully treating patients with herbals told her by an old Indian medicine man. Read here story here...

people could "make" money off of this tree, but in reality, pharm would be losing out, if the tree actually did kill cancer, it would be killing one of pharm's biggest businesses

get it?

it's not that you can't make money off of it, it's that it cuts the legging out of all the other money making schemes and doesn't make anywhere near as much...

That about sums it up, asmileisthenewak47 .... sadly.

Not surprised at Dr Temps shock. It is inhumane. Doesn't make the whole medical profession disreputable. There are doctors who genuinely care for their patients, and not in it for the money and status. But the Pharmaceutical industry has not earned a good reputation. But that is old news....

I thought I would post some pics I found....
The seeds.

Trade Winds Fruit sells seeds, but there's probably a source closer to you, Chelle.

seems unlikely to me that this tree is going to wipe out cancer, but the fruits are tasty.  there's also a possible link between soursop and a couple other fruits in the Annonaceae and a disease similar to Parkinson's.

while I would love to find out that a miracle plant exists that will cure cancer, I'm not going to hold my breath.  while I'm quite sure that herbal medicine can be very effective, I don't think it works that way.  the pharmaceutical industry has promoted the myth of the "wonder drug" with devastating results; shifting that mythology to the botanical world doesn't seem terribly appropriate.

that isn't to say that something like this couldn't help a person beat cancer in conjunction with other healing foods and plants and lifestyle changes.  maybe it can.  I just don't think it would be as simple as drinking some tea a couple times each day.

Great information on a interesting (maybe controversial) plant.

Sidebar: I would add that there is a strong self-promoting culture surrounding the medical profession and pharmaceuticals here in the US.  If only doctors and drug companies could be rewarded for having less clients, for handing out less medications, or using natural treatments first, etc.  Then we would see the conflict of interests in health care reduced.  I hate to be a pessimists but nothing is going to get better with this current culture as it is now.  Adding access to this system for every American is only going to grow the beast - just my personal feelings.

This is why it's nice to learn of good plants and foods that we can use to help heal ourselves.  Thanks for the discussion everyone, the link Tel, and the post Chelle.

Chelle, total sarcasm. sorry for not clarifying.

Expect no one to tell you the truth. Do your own research. Also, expect people to not know how to tell you to use something correctly. Many people leave important steps, even if they do not know.

Nine videos of Dr. McLaughlin discussing the anti-cancer testing of pawpaws.

Youtube pawpaw and cancer search.

Other videos on youtube (do a search on cancer cure) that talk about cancer cures: electric boxes you can build, hemp oil, B17, DCA (Dichloroacetic Acid), sodium bicarbonate...

If you are trying to cure your cancer, i'd pick several that do not conflict and go from there. Meditation has cured cancer. It has also made it worse. I think it is important to understand what is going on the cause of the cancer, and the personality and life style of the individual being treated.

If I had cancer, I know what I would do. Pick several that do not conflict, and go from there. Also know that meditation has cured cancer. It also made it worse in some people.

Stress is probably the number one killer. Laugh a lot and often. Smile, enjoy life. Smell the roses, eat a variety of foods and nutrients. Combination seem to help. Over eating seems to lower the immune system while lower caloric intake seems to increase it. (ever notice how some people are not hungry when they are sick?).

Enjoy reading all of the new stuff everyone here brings. Thank you all of the input and sharing of information.

You're probably right.... but I suspect that given this little story there is something going on ....... If they tried to duplicate it chemically there was a reason for that...... and that makes it definitely worth having around.

I have heard of people beating cancer without chemo... people given no hope......... on raw fruits and nuts. I heard of someone taken into remission through chemo and a strict diet... then went home and binged on sugar which she had been denied because it feeds the cancer. By the end of that week she was dead. They found her riddled with the cancer.

I wouldn't offer this plant to a terminal case as the magic fix... that would be cruel. But I would offer it as worth trying. I hope we do hear of some good results over time.

Too true.

Thanks for the info and links... will check it all out. Amazing that you beat cancer... I am always impressed to hear that. A tough challenge and even with great courage not always a happy ending.

Yes, is a great forum. Sooooo interesting. Sometimes I have to force myself away from reading just to get stuff done!

Very welcome. Hopefully some can get hold of seeds... or of the paw paw Dr Temp posted about. Cancer is really just cells gone bad... we apparently have them produced from time to time .... and our immune system just deals with them naturally. It is when the immune system gets overwhelmed that they multiply to do damage. But not surprising in this high pressure and toxic world we inhabit. We can beat it though... I really believe it. Live long, healthy and productive lives despite the odds.

1 part Bloodroot, 1 part  Galangal, 2 parts zinc chloride. Water to mix. Apply to tumors or take internally.

Google black Save It works.

Blood root is easily grown in your permaculture forests.

Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) seems to be here as well. I see it is sold as part of herbal combinations in health stores too. Interesting.

Galangal  (Alpinia officinarum)

The genus Alpinia was named by Plumier after Prospero Alpino, a famous Italian botanist of the early seventeenth century. The name Galangal is derived from the Arabic Khalanjan, perhaps a perversion of a Chinese word meaning 'mild ginger.'

The greater galanga has medicinal applications; the rhizome is used traditionally against rheumatism, bronchial catarrh, bad breath, and ulcers whooping colds in children, throat infections, to control incontinence, fever and dyspepsia.

The root contains a volatile oil, resin, galangol, kaempferid, galangin and alpinin, starch, etc. The active principles are the volatile oil and acrid resin. The chemical constituents of this oil are methyl cinnamate, cincole, camphor and d-pinene.

The essential oils are active again gram positive - and gram negative micro organisms.

This product has no toxic warnings

Found here....

Galangal

A root with a ginger-peppery flavour. Similar to ginger, it is available in paste form and is great in curries or stirred into broths and Thai dishes containing coconut milk.

From Woolworth... a local chainstore.

Thanks for posting Roy. Looks really interesting.

I'm always suspicious when articles are written full of exclamation points!!!  And boldface type in certain spots!!!

The company had one huge problem with the Graviola tree–it’s completely natural, and so, under federal law, not patentable. There’s no way to make serious profits from it.

Not if the entire plant is required to be effective in fighting cancer.  However, if they are able to extract one chemical with cancer-fighting capabilities, and can show that other compounds have no effect or are harmful, then it should be patentable.  Look at Marinol (once upon a time) as an example.

The point seems to be that they could not replicate the results by extracting one or more chemicals and patenting them. Only the plant in its natural state worked.

Nowhere was it said that the entire plant was needed to cure cancer... merely the leaves. Those leaves are being marketed to the general public in health stores.... but that does not open up the medical world with it's huge cancer machine and big business machinations. The health market brings minimal financial returns compared to the cancer industry..... simply because many people are as skeptical as you are. When a cancer patient is in the hands of the cancer industry you have a frightened and captive target for chemo cocktails.... desperately expensive stuff.

If you are going to express suspicion when exclamation points and boldface is used.... perhaps you should not use these forms of expression yourself?

Noni is also being grown and has been touted as active against certain types or cancers, it's a shrub and the fruit and leaves are steeped and fermented in water for a time then strained and then ingested

Here's another one.  Not a tree, but we're always looking for something to put in shade or partial shade and relevant to this discussion about cancer.

This tree is from the Tropics and is very tender to frost, no way it would have a chance outdoors in the States outside of Southern Florida, the warmer parts of Southern California, and extreme South Texas.  Once temperatures cool down the tree completely stops growing, any frost damages the tree, hard frost kills it.  If you have a greenhouse then do as you wish.

That article is pretty sensationalistic, like all the bogus 'health secret' stuff that comes in the mail.  But Soursop / Guanábana / Graviola is known to kill cancer cells, here's a less sensationalistic page about it:
http://www.rain-tree.com/graviola.htm

Keep in mind though that silver bullets are myths and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
