I need to do a call using either Zoom or Facetime.

We have  Iphone 6 prepaid.  If we use this for Zoom or Facetime for a 30 minute call will it eat up the prepaid minutes?

In my experience video calls use a lot of data. (Not sure why they’d use minutes, so I assume that’s a typo.) I would recommend, if you are able, first connecting to Wi-Fi, turning off your data, and then completing the video call that way.

Anne,

how do you access the internet?  Do you have wifi?  A quick internet search tells me an Iphone 6 is wifi capable.  If you use your iphone to make a call while you are on the internet then you don't use your phone service or your minutes...so free.

Look in your 'settings' icon for wifi.  find your router name and log in like your computer does.  Once you are connected you will no longer send and recieve via phone service.

i don't use an iphone, but if it's like android you should be able to change your settings to only use wifi when wifi is available, thus saving your data. you may be able to limit your data use to certain programs automatically.

facetime is a video program, minutes would be for telephone calling (no video).

As Tereza already mentioned, a Zoom call will require internet access, but will not count towards minutes of phone calls. I believe Facetime is the same way, but I am an android user and am not as familiar with Apple products.

I have Wifi, just have never used Facetime or Zoom so I don't know how it works.

I was going to ask my neighbor to help me though dear hubby said he is not dependable.

I ask my daughter if she would help me and she says she will come next week.

I was just afraid I might need to add minutes to the phone which costs Dollars.

Thanks everyone for letting me know it will be using Wifi as I have plenty of that.

I don't even know how to talk on a Iphone or how to talk on a Iphone during a video call. Dear hubby only uses it to text.

It's really no big deal, and you'll figure it out easily.
Zoom works through a web platform, they'll send you a link via email or text that you click on, it takes you to the platform, you enable your microphone and camera and then the call starts, it's easy peasy.
Facetime has its own app on the iphone, it's like a video calling service between iphone users (I think only iphone but i'm not 100% sure).
Both involve each user having a camera and their mic on, sometimes with zoom if the connection is bad you might disable your camera to use less data.

Regardless of whichever you have, if you have wifi, you can disable your phone's data connection and you won't use a penny of your phone allotment (most plans will give you minutes of telephone calls and then a quantity of data, usually measured in gigs or GB, and then maybe a number of text messages).
It sounds confusing but you'll catch on super quick.

Thank, Tereza

I talk with our daughter last night and she said we will use her phone and she will be there with me.

It feels like I am taking a big step into the world of the World Wide Web.
