Electrosensitivity is an issue that has come up recently elsewhere on Permies, and I thought I'd ask--if you are electrosensitive how do you deal with this in a way so that you can be as healthy as possible despite the massive obstacles?

For those unaware, electrosensitivity is when someone has negative, often immediately perceptible health effects from exposure to electromagnetic frequencies such as are emitted by cell phones, cell towers, wifi, bluetooth, solar flares, and so on.

Commonly, people have neurological issues, especially bad headaches and sleeping troubles. I have felt this electrosensitivity, sometimes more pronounced but usually only perceptible if I think about it. Some are less fortunate, however.

How do you deal with this in order to live well despite our increasingly electrified world? And especially, are there ways of strengthening our bodies towards it, in addition to shielding ourselves?

I am a 15-year+ EHS survivor and have been living off-grid most of that time. I write about EMF survival and off-grid tips (search Julia Lupine books on Amazon) and also on my substack/@julialupine.
Most important takeaway tips: DC power (much safer), rock and sand as shielding (much more effective and cheaper than Faraday fabric), organic diet, medicinal mushrooms (lion’s mane, reishi, etc.), get an EMF meter and look for a home with less than one microwatt RF per square meter.

Since our bodies are essentially batteries I have tried to maintain a better potassium/sodium balance since that is what generates our electrical pulses for our brain and heart.

I also hike daily 7 to 9 miles per day and whenever possible hike barefoot so I am grounded. But “whenever possible” is a pretty vague term because it was windy and raw out yesterday at 34 degrees (1 degree celcious) but while the trail was a boring, it was a mowed path so I hiked it barefoot. It was 2.86 miles.

I am okay on most forest paths, board walk paths without chicken wire, and smooth bedrock, but cannot hike on graveled paths due to sharp rocks. I typically hike at least a half mile per day barefoot so I am grounded, or stopping for lunch I might go barefoot so I am grounded while I pause for a lunch break. So I ground for 20-30 minutes per day typically.

I seem to sleep better and my joints are not so painful from it.

Drinking lots of water seems to help. Bentonite clay foot baths also seems to help.

Reducing exposure is important. We use the phone/internet 3x a week instead of every day, and I think that makes a difference. Phones can be switched on to aeroplane mode when not in use. Electronic stuff gets locked away in faraday bags overnight, and that helps us avoid exposure while we're sleeping.

I can definitely feel when the phone has been accidentally switched onto wifi mode. Some phones do this automatically, and often the default setting for a new phone is to have wifi constantly on and many people don't realise that they are blasting wifi at everyone around them.

The most EMF sensitive person that I know is currently getting chiropractic treatment, and that seems to be helping. This could be because his EMF issues are related to a nerve injury and the symptoms are a bit different to most peoples, but it is something that could be worth trying for other EMF sensitive people.

This. Exactly this. This is what my therapist has been talking about. And now with a tiny ad:
