I've got a few acres of land in Skagit County near the conveniences of town, where I've got a great little start to a homestead, but it's a lot to manage on my own. I'm hoping to find someone who wants to share this life with me. I'm also interested in connecting with other homesteaders and permies in my area to network, skill share, make friends, etc.

I settled in my particular area because it's rural but also feels like a relatively safe pocket for lgbt+ folks. But this life isn't for everyone, and being lgbt already creates a small dating pool. So I figured I'd reach out here to make some connections.

The setup: I've got a semi-offgrid tiny home now, plan to build a "real" house soon inspired by Sunray Kelly's homestead. I've got a sanitary humanure setup, rainwater catchment, solar energy kit + grid power, and starting a hugelkultur.
I also have a house about 35 min away where I shower, do laundry, and fill potable water until I improve my rainwater filtration and plumbing setup.

My main limitation in building this up is TIME. I have a full time remote work job, plus manage an Airbnb property, plus trying to build up my home when weather allows. Having someone to share the load (and life) would make this all more possible and a lot more joyful, even if it's just on weekends or part-time.

Me: I'm a hopeless romantic. I'm quiet and gentle. I live for cuddles. I'm happy to eat things I didn't have to cook for myself, but also enjoy cooking for others. I'm neurospicy, and always striving to find the balance between planning and spontaneity. I'm ftm (he/they), and demisexual. I care deeply about land stewardship, human rights, personal autonomy/consent, kindness, community, and inclusion. I believe that clear intentional communication and boundaries are the cornerstones of a healthy relationship. I value interdependence and an egalitarian partnership; mutual support, not caretaking.

Compatibility notes: I practice intentional & consensual non-monogamy. I am firmly non-religious and an omnivore (we can differ on this as long as we respect each other's choices). I live with dogs and cats (allergy warning). I'm open to platonic relationships with just about anyone if we share core values (honesty, openness, respect for other beings and the land). For romance, I'm interested in queer people of any gender within about 10 years of my age (37). I prioritize in-person connection over digital/long-distance.

Please reach out if you'd like to know more and meet over coffee or a dog walk.

Hello Jovian,

I'm also in Skagit county; near Sedro Woolley.  Please see my post in the singles forum for more about me.  Open to platonic friendships, sharing homesteading ideas and trading plant materials.

Welcome to permies Jovian. Your tiny house is cute! I have to ask - is the upstairs door for an extension, are they window shutters, or is it an escape hatch?

Thanks Nancy!
It was originally supposed to be a window but the builder was concerned that with the narrow stairwell I wouldn't be able to get any furniture upstairs, so we decided to swap to a door, hay-loft style. I open it in the summer for airflow (with a mosquito net), and plan to convert it to a Dutch door to get the best of both worlds. Could always add a deck/stairs too.

Hello!  I am pretty new to the site too, and have been making a similar post. Really similar, we've got a ton of demographic overlap; I'm 39, trans, poly, demi, omnivorous, and neurospicy. What you describe of quiet, gentle, kindness, community, inclusion, land stewardship, just makes me go YES THAT, ME TOO. I just uh also am painfully shy so I havent and it took like 5 days for me to get THIS together.

I lived up in Bellingham/Ferndale for about a decade, until my sister's husband got shipped out early in the pandemic and I moved cross-country to Georgia so she wouldn't be alone on her little sheep farm. I'd been essentially a remote farmhand for her before but then I got here and discovered I gotta have dairy goats in my life. I would love to live in that area again, I still have a lot of friends and found-family up there. Once her divorce is finished we're moving and not quite sure where, just getting the heck outta GA.

Cats are great, and dogs are great. I have three: two chinese cresteds and a yakutian laika. Anyway hi, hello. I dunno if the similarities is an obstacle or a bonus but either way, you seem like someone I would like to know.  Uh here is me with my very first lamancha, Cordelia (I'm not THAT short, I'm sitting down).
