Recovered from a dusty forgotten corner of a root cellar was a piece of iron that I have not seen before. I have been informed that it is a "Scotch Bowl" and this appears to be an older cast iron piece from what I can gather.

Does anybody have any information on how they were used, how/if they can still be used, and any other tidbits of information about it?

I'm currently working on cleaning it up and getting it seasoned.

From what I can gather it is a somewhat specialized version of a Dutch oven for cooking over an open fire….no lid and a rounded bottom.  Thanks for the post. I never heard of them prior to your post.
