Growing up my mom kept the ketchup in the pantry.  Dear hubby's family kept the ketchup in the fridge.  I asked him why take up space the in fridge.

We quit buying ketchup and now only buy Chili Sauce.  It has a permanent spot on the table.

Mustard is also not kept in the fridge.

Wait, ketchup and mustard doesn't have to be refrigerated?

Huh...

I have something to read up on!

Yeah, that's news to me, too! We keep it in the fridge but we also don't use it up very quickly. I can see how in a diner, those condiments on every table would be OK being left out because they'd be cycled through so regularly.

We also put the Chili Sauce in the pantry along with hot sauce.

Ours are store bought so I think homemade might need to go into the fridge.

Seldom do they see the inside of a fridge.  Very much like salt and pepper, they sit on the island within easy reach.
