Hello.
We are keeping out eyes open for some good land in unorganized townships around North Bay area (northern Ontario) and possibly looking for some interested parties to join us. This won't happen for at least a year as we are still getting our grubstake up to what we will need. It takes time to organized these kind of things, so I figured I would put this out there and see if I can generate any interest.
The unorganized townships don't require building permits and have some fairly priced properties. Perfect for doing some serious permaculture innovation without too much hassle from the local authorities. My parents have an old family cottage in the area, so I have been up there a decent amount scouting the country side looking for nice spots. There seem to be a few old dilapidated farms with barns and/or houses that could be taken down and re-purposed. I am thinking about checking these places out and seeing if the land owner might be inclined to selling part of the farm with the old structures.
Many of the older people seem to be moving away to the cities as it is difficult for them in the winters in the country. So some good old chatting to the locals could very well end up in a sweet deal for some land which they are unable to use and want to see something cool done with.
Anyway, I will keep on the hunt and continue to hash out the community structure type which I would like to see. In the mean time maybe some interested folks can post on here and we can connect in a more formal way if some serious interest is generated.
