Only clean water with no fish, entering the penstock, so clogging is a nonissue.
The size of turbine nozzles compared to the dia of the penstock assures a full supply of water pressure at all times.
I know it’s on a different scale but we have a split penstock design too. It only makes sense as we can shut one intake down or the other and still flow to either turbine.
I think there are some losses doing that so it is rare, but we can do it.
We are run of river anyway so we can only swallow what Mother Nature gives us, minus 6 percent for fish passage
