It's a different type of software, an older sort, but I'm hoping you'll find it comfortable enough!

Ask questions, I'll give you a hand, and when I find the support link I'll post it, but I'm not finding it while writing this...

Here is a link to how permies forum works.  About half way down the list, there's a General Topics that has stuff about working the actual interface, like how to post and use quotes and all that.

Aha, and I just figured something out!

The topics are paged, so if you get to the bottom of the page, you will need to scroll all the way up to the top to find the  buttons for Page 1, Page 2, etc.

Oops, you can also scroll down a little, looking down towards the right hand corner, and there's the Page 1, Page 2 buttons down there, too.

Hi there!

I'm yet another Nano refugee, I go by Amiricol. (a miracle is how you say it)
I'm writing a never ending story called True Lunacy, a fanfic on the band Luna Sea. (pronounced Lunacy) It's been going on for three years now, and I'm on book two. I jumped forward four years.

I hope to keep on track here. I"ve mad a goal of 5k this month, trying to make it so I'm not pushing it. I wrote too much last month.

Glad to be here.

I completely understand the need to back off from a push! I'm glad you made it here.

Are you in touch with Danielle James on the main site? I can't find her to buddy her or invite her to a group, and I'd love to invite her over here, but I don't want to do it on the forums, it's not safe.

I'm not, I told her to friend me, and well she hasn't friended me. Maybe she doesn't have an official page?
I'm not doing email, I'm almost private there, and I'm spooky of a lot of links. Trust me, I've gotten some very interesting ones.

Turns out the that, I'm going to push it this month as well. I'm a little over 25% or goal and I can't figure how to up it this time.
Time for coffee or tea, I'm in a cafeteria for a writing jag. I'm going to listen to some true crime etc.

Hello all!  I'm Heathertwin over on the NaNo boards.  I'm still finding my way around.  This is quite the old school forum, but that's not a bad thing.  It just means I get to dredge up all my old memories from forums of the past.

I'm five poems behind, but have so many other things to get to... maybe I'll be able to make some poetry tonight after the house has gone to sleep.  I'm here today to make a public commitment to sort out my cookbook project and have a solid plan for finishing up the cooking-testing part of it - I want to have that plan ready by the end of the month!

Doing well!  I'm getting back into my Avenger universe (not related to Marvel.  It's about the crew of a spaceship called The Avenger).  I have three more stories in the universe to finish.  I'm making good progress on the first of those three.  Once I finish those three, I might re-read through the whole thing and write some more stories.  It's a fun group of characters.

Hi Becky! how's the story going?

I wrote a couple new scenes on mine, there's big play getting put on and a crowd watching it. It's all in the Bronze Age, so after nightfall there's lots of oil lamps flickering all over the place, and tallow dips.

Another scene was a couple of my characters who have a bit of a thing for each other but are no where near actually, like, admitting to it.

Nice to see everyone is still writing and keep in touch with you.

Seeing the mention of Luna Sea prompted me to look up the name.  The music is pretty good (Japanese rock band, is that who the fanfic is based on?) It reminds me of the things my older brother used to listen to back in the day (we have very eclectic taste because we were surrounded by people with very different tastes in music and you either end up liking everything in that case or investing in extra plugs.

Yeah Luna Sea is a Japanese rock band, I love them. And other bands, but LS caught my eye back in 2000, just when they started a ten year break. I'm totally crushing on INORAN (Ino) so I torture him a lot. They're just my favorite band.

Lol, I got my brother into Dir en Grey for a while, but they changed to HEAVY rock and it wasn't quite this thing.

I'm not going to write today, I have new Kittens at Kitten Academy and a meeting in thirty minutes. ANd the furnace guy... No writing today. Or at least not a lot.

This is somewhat related to my cookbook project, I finally finished putting together a database of all of the times that food is mentioned on the radio show Dragnet yesterday and posted a little blog post about it today. I have plans to do a Dragnet cookbook after the first cookbook which I am working on now, and need all that information to know what I should look at cooking! I would really appreciate advise on how to make the database easily shareable, and easier to navigate and store - without having to re-enter all the information in a different program. (It's currently in Google Sheets - and I have about 100 episodes-worth of info backed up the very old school way - in a notebook - but have no back up of the first 2/3rds of the databases.)

Edited: here's the link to the blog post https://wordpress.com/post/vtdorch.wordpress.com/3122

I started a sci-fi novel in the summer of 2016 with the plan that my twin brother and I would write it together. He was initially interested, and over several phone calls we hammered out the basic scenario, but for a variety of reasons further collaboration didn't work out so I ended up starting it on my own around 2019 or 2020. Then around February this year, having ground through four or five drafts of about the first 1/3 of the novel, I realized that I'd made the story too complicated and set it aside. I plan to resurrect it soon as a short story or novella.

In the meantime I wrote a long essay (11,000+ words) on my experience building a guitar for the first time, which also turned out to be about perseverance, creative expression, and the rejection of consumerism and purchased identity. I'd like to get it published somewhere but I'm not sure where. (If anyone knows of a place where such things are published and likely to be widely read, please let me know!)

I also wrote a very short story intended as half of a diptych. Kind of silly, absurdist, magical realism, almost more for the fun of wordplay than to tell a story. I haven't written the other half yet but I have the idea.

A couple days ago I started writing an essay that critiques McMansions, but unlike most of the writing on this topic I've seen online, I'm critiquing them entirely in practical down-to-earth terms irrespective of aesthetics or grand moral philosophy. ("Without the touchy-feely BS", as I put it in the working title.) I think this essay will probably end up in the 3,000-5,000 word range; right now I'm at about 1,700 words.

I tried searching chillsubs for something to help you out with placing the guitar piece - https://www.chillsubs.com/browse/magazines?page=14 maybe the magazine Reckoning? but perhaps you'd have best luck with a guitar-focused magazine of some kind? I don't know very much about the nonfiction end of things.

Good morning. Life has been a bit hectic so I haven't been checking in here daily but I am writing daily. I've kept up with my poem-a-day plan for December. I also got a call for proposals from someone I've done work for before so I am trying to get that out by Monday. And this morning I added to https://permies.com/t/235091/Haiku-chain here -- love that thread!

I have one more day to watch, so there we go.

Finished the first draft of my McMansions essay a day or two ago. It's approximately 4500 words, about the length I expected. It's not my turn to submit anything to my writer's group until next week, so I'll have to wait until the 22nd to have it critiqued. That kind of suspense is killer.

I am in desperate need to get my Christmas cards/letters out, that's what has to be my focus this weekend. However, I started this morning by writing a poem - haven't done that first off for a week to ten days and it felt good to be back at it. I'm still behind on poems for my project, but today I know I won't fall further behind now, even if I don't get any more poetry done.

Also, early this week, I did a "live" (although not in person) reading of a poem for the first time! It was extremely nervous, but I hope to do it again.

Hello there!

I did about seven months' worth of my poetry project, but I'm about a month behind now, and I'm not sure if I'll catch up or not. I reviewed my poems recently and I don't know that they're anything I'd want to release to the world as a collection (too depressing, and kind of repetitive - and those are the best of the poems!) so I'm not really very motivated on that project at the moment.

Instead, I've been making a lot of what feels like progress on my cookbook in the past two weeks or so, I've got well over half the recipes I want/need tested and typed up now, and have a solid idea of what the remaining recipes will be, although a few questions remain.
I'd really like to have the first draft of the book done by September. I wanted to have the whole thing published by this September at one point, but I don't think that's going to be possible, I still can't devote regular steady hours and hours to it, and that's what it would need. (As it is I'm behind on the garden because I've been testing recipes instead, oops.)

I've had a couple of short stories published or picked up to be published recently as well, which is always nice. Keep writing, writers!
