My uncle in Russia has been searching for decades for ways to make soil cultivation easier. While permaculture makes the most of nature's own resources, Ploskorez tools utilizes human resources combined with seemingly ancient engineering designs. Our tools are light, ergonomic, versatile and most of all - effective when it comes to soil productivity! They proved to be particularly beneficial to elderly and disabled gardeners. Handle is made with silver birch or aspen. Shape of the handle is rounded rectangular, giving it a better grip. Blades are made with stainless steel, requiring minimum maintenance. Most tools have adjustable angles to suit different people's height, working style and individual preferences. All handles are long 130cm but can be cut to size.

As festive season is approaching, we thought that our tools would make a unique and useful present. Our tools are available in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, UK, Ireland from our partners and we can ship to most parts of the world. Please write to us with your inquiry: info@ploskorez.co.uk.

We also appreciate your feedback if you are already using our tools and welcome any suggestions where we can improve our range.

Please note that we are setting up a charity from next year to give access to our tools by less able gardeners and your support will be greatly appreciated.

Warmest regards,
Vladimir

I like the one in the video. Use it like a Dutch hoe, or plunge like a mattock to pull tap roots.

I recently received a pair of these hoes (two different sizes) that I ordered from http://ecominded.net/news/fokin-s-ploskorez.html a little while ago. I used a hockey stick for the handle. It works fantastic! Best hoe we have ever used. No regrets. We will probably buy more. Great for finest weeding, for grubbing out roots or rhizomes, for tillage and every task we've set it to so far.

I have one, that I was blessed to win in a giveaway Yuri did here a couple of years ago. It's a super-useful tool! I'd buy one without hesitation!

Seems like something that would be very simple to make, too. I may try that.

The Ploskorez is a favorite among organic gardeners and permaculturists for its efficiency and soil-friendly design. With proper technique, it can save time and effort while keeping your garden healthy!

Would you like tips for specific tasks (e.g., preparing beds, weeding tough grasses)?

The Ploskorez (also known as the Fokin hoe or flat-cutter) is a versatile and efficient hand tool for gardening and farming. Here’s how to use it effectively:

1. Proper Grip & Posture
* Hold the handle firmly but not too tightly.
* Stand straight, keeping your back neutral to avoid strain.
* Use smooth, sweeping motions rather than heavy chopping.

2. Key Uses
✔ Weeding – Slides just under the soil to cut weeds at the roots.
✔ Loosening Soil – Aerates compacted earth without turning layers (good for no-till farming).
✔ Hilling & Furrowing – Shapes beds and creates shallow trenches for planting.
✔ Mulching – Covers soil with organic matter while lightly mixing it in.

3. Technique Tips
* Work in a pulling or pushing motion (like a Dutch hoe) rather than hacking.
* Adjust the angle for shallow weeding (5–10 cm deep) or deeper soil work.
* Keep the blade sharp for cleaner cuts and less effort.

4. Advantages Over Traditional Hoes
* Less strain on the back (ergonomic design).
* Faster work due to wide cutting edge.
* Multi-purpose (weeding, cultivating, hilling).

5. Maintenance
* Clean after use to prevent rust.
* Sharpen the blade occasionally with a file or grinder.
* Store in a dry place.

The Ploskorez is a favorite among organic gardeners and permaculturists for its efficiency and soil-friendly design. With proper technique, it can save time and effort while keeping your garden healthy!

And now for something completely different ... OUCH! STOP THAT! HOLD THIS TINY AD!
