We are a working family of five, with a large modern bungalow and a pretty big chunk of land to share (160 acres.) Looking for another couple or family to live with and work along side of in community as we try to learn how to be more independant of the many trappings of a modern lifestyle. Garden area, pasture (we've recently raised chickens, bottle baby beef and pigs), are some of the things we have done so far. We've realized that we can't do it alone and we have a lot of blessings to share. We are located near Melville, Saskatchewan Canada. We would be willing to share the house until you would be ready to build something of your own. We know how hard starting out can be. Thanks for looking and God bless.

Good luck finding some people to help out! I'm in the wrong province but figured I'd send you my well wishes anyway.

Hello,

Are you offering land for purchase as well? We are a couple seeking to live a simpler life and be a bit more self sufficient.
Can you please email me if you are interested. friends222@hotmail.com

Just bumping this in case someone is crazy enough to come live in the frozen north. Lots of space to try things.

Hi, I would be interested in talking to you more. My family has been looking at land in Saskatchewan with the dream of starting a homestead but doing it on our own is quite daunting!

I'm in Saskatchewan and looking to meet fellow (local-ish) permies. I'd like the chance to meet up sometime. I'm an hour south by south-west of you.

Hi, we are in southeast Sask close to Carnduff. We have the same sort of idea on 24 acres on the souris river. We are thinking of renting our basement for the summer, accommodation, campground. I would be interested to know if you had luck finding people with similar interests and if or how you have  worked out a plan! Anyone interested in a work and stay situation I would be glad to hear from

I'm about 30 minutes from you in NoDak. My little town does not allow beekeeping to my chagrin since that's something I really want to do. I personally don't need a work stay situation but similar to you, would love to work with others on some permie projects and have a community of sorts that are interested in the same things.

good day mr. gusten...
late reply, i just discovered this site.
i know of a farm co-op just a skip-and-hop away, one in Nelson BC and another in Manitoba,
both are communities, looking to connect with other farm families and such.

I'm near Sask, and I would like to build a 'living fence' and build a greenhouse with a sort of hydronic heating system. These are personal endeavors though at my property, but what I could offer for help would be pay and food, which could be worked out if anyone has knowledge of how to do either thing and wants to. We are almost to the point where it's warm enough to exist here, lol. I'm not sure if WWOOF is more appropriate since there is only a little bit that I could 'teach' with re to gardening and canning food. But I think community building in this neck of the woods is key to survival, by that I mean mental survival not just physical. It's a hard place to live for half of the year, the other half is beautiful and that half is what makes you stay.

Not that the winter isn't beautiful in it's own right, but it's long, and hard.

And there is a lack of interest in permaculture, as most farms are family in name only and employ the same techniques as the factory farms. There is even some hostility to it, frankly, regardless of your political or religious bend, because they see it as competition to the spraying of ginormous fields way they've always done things. How dare you think you can do it better without the chemicals, you weird hippie.....I was mocked for stating bees are important and the native plants that feed them are too, I kid you not. They consider anything not mowed down to their liking a weed that must die. Kill it with fire, or a load of chemicals, it's wild! That sort of mentality. It's annoying.

So yeah, community in Sask and neighboring areas in 'Merica or Canada would be very cool indeed. I'd be willing to lend a hand to others' projects as well as my own. I could offer a campsite on one of my lots and we actually have some local camp-style accommodations. I have some help with these things but not permie help with permie mentality. I'm also not as in tune with regenerative practices as I'd like to be, but I'm going in that direction.
