I'm near Sask, and I would like to build a 'living
fence' and build a
greenhouse with a sort of hydronic heating system. These are personal endeavors though at my property, but what I could offer for help would be pay and food, which could be worked out if anyone has knowledge of how to do either thing and wants to. We are almost to the point where it's warm enough to exist here, lol. I'm not sure if
WWOOF is more appropriate since there is only a little bit that I could 'teach' with re to
gardening and canning food. But I think community building in this neck of the woods is key to survival, by that I mean mental survival not just physical. It's a hard place to live for half of the year, the other half is beautiful and that half is what makes you stay.
Not that the winter isn't beautiful in it's own right, but it's long, and hard.
And there is a lack of interest in
permaculture, as most farms are family in name only and employ the same techniques as the factory farms. There is even some hostility to it, frankly, regardless of your political or religious bend, because they see it as competition to the spraying of ginormous fields way they've always done things. How dare you think you can do it better without the chemicals, you weird hippie.....I was mocked for stating
bees are important and the
native plants that
feed them are too, I kid you not. They consider anything not mowed down to their liking a weed that must die. Kill it with fire, or a load of chemicals, it's wild! That sort of mentality. It's annoying.
So yeah, community in Sask and neighboring areas in 'Merica or Canada would be very cool indeed. I'd be willing to lend a hand to others' projects as well as my own. I could offer a campsite on one of my lots and we actually have some
local camp-style accommodations. I have some help with these things but not permie help with permie mentality. I'm also not as in tune with regenerative practices as I'd like to be, but I'm going in that direction.
