The 68th UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has been nominated to implement the International Year of the Soils (IYS) 2015, within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership and in collaboration with Governments and the secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
To help celebrate the International Year of the Soils, we will be streaming the full feature film, Symphony of the Soil, for FREE for the week of December 5 – 12, 2014 Last day to watch for free.

I watched the film two days ago and subsequently sent the link to my contacts via social media. It does a really nice job of tying things into a systematic whole without what agribiz might call histrionics. Beautifully shot and edited, though I might have liked a bit of an introduction rather than starting in medias res. I recommend anyone having anything to do with agriculture watch this film. I actually thought of the possibility of trying to integrate it into a school curricula ... which seems the logical place for it to fit is when they teach Earth science (for me that was eighth grade).

I realize today (12/12/14) is the last day to view it free, but it is at least as good as 80% of the DVDs anyone of us might buy to watch a film. And, the $20 is less than taking a date to see a movie in a theater if you buy a drink or a snack.

The film stated a case, proved its case and did so all in a very entertaining and beautiful manner. Two thumbs up!
