Northwest Edible Life is a website that has been awesome to permies.com for quite a while so I figured it was time it got a nice media rich thread.



The site is ran/authored by this gal, Erica Strauss.



She has a beautiful site where she writes about TONS of different things regarding gardening , cooking, chickens, and food preservation.

My personal favorite article of hers is: The Tragedy of a Healthy Eater.



She made this awesome Garden Planner & Journal that you can get here!

She also has several children so she talks a lot about homesteading with families here!

This one is my favorite of hers. At least so far. On stir fry and stir fry sauce. This lady gets it, though I think she's simplifying the art of saucing for beginners and the lazy. This is an awesome article for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable cooking and wants to start learning.

She even talks about jars. Generally, if anyone cares, I think that the Ball Ideal is the best jar there is. But I don't know if they make it anymore. Which would be damn near a crime in my opinion. They're great. Check um out. Grolsch (TM) style wire lid and a narrow mouth so you really have to work to get the last 40 percent of what ever is in it, which leads me at least to carefully consider that I have less than half a jar left...

Oooohh .... Erica rocks! AND she's in 'our' corner of the world... PNW! However, her tons of ingenious, invaluable how-to's, and lovable, personal how-to-survive sharings are applicable for everyone. Check our her pond build, and detailed info on bentonite sealers... which ones, how to test, ratios, where to buy, etc. And follow her unfolding ever-improving chicken adventure ... plus the new duck saga just starting... and how Dave Wilson's urban fruit tree pruning system is working out ... and how-to details on the charcuterie she produced over the holidays... and.... so much more! And that's just for starters... she also has a book coming out shortly. Yay! Oh, and did I say, authentic as they come :)

I love Erica and I follow her website closely. I did this even before I moved to the PNW! She has a great "voice" in her writing and is just fun to read, along with being really informational and inspirational.

She has just two kids, spaced 6 years apart, so I wouldn't describe that as "several children." It is super impressive what she's been able to do with a kid on her back, along with what she's been able to get her kids to do, mostly via gentle persistence.
