Raw Milk House Bill 245 in Montana - making raw milk legal

While I usually attempt to side-step politics (and the cider press here on permies!), I very much appreciate the work done by the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. Here is their page on Raw Milk in Montana HB 245: http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/aa/aa-19February2015.htm.

It is currently illegal to sell raw milk in Montana. HB 245 would change this.

The bill would allow small-scale farmers who meet specific standards to sell raw milk.

The link above has an e-mail petition set up to e-mail all members of the Montana House of Reps at once about HB 245 if you happen to be a Montanan.

They are debating it in Wyoming also.

I like the idea of more freedom of choice in all the states, so thanks for posting those links, Miles.

I even like the idea of shifts to more "buyer beware" kinds of legalities (though removing/repealing legislation is my preference over creating more), because as many have pointed out, there are things that are legal that are far more dangerous and unhealthy to our bodies.

I must admit the idea that the right to buy raw milk being a political issue amuses me no end viewing things from here in France. Here it's available at every supermarket
Will you guys get to buy raw milk products too ?

In Montana, raw milk cheese is legal (at least I see it for sale in the stores, though honestly, I haven't looked at the legislation), just not the raw milk or raw cream. I imagine/hope even more products would become available if the bill passes.

The ban on French cheeses is ridiculous! I haven't looked into what's happening with that. I ate bleu cheese on a steak recently largely out of putting my money where my mouth is. And it was sooo delicious!

Alas I have an allergy to blue cheese
And they only sell about 25 different types here in the cheese departments.

Just posted this story over on my FB page. Seems the U.S. Rep. was a bit naive about who doesn't want raw milk and the lengths they'll go to stop it.
