juice can lids..... (they don't rust !)

i re- use them as a large washer with a "deck screw". then....
i cut off the lip of vinyl siding and use the now flat strip
of  plastic to anchor down greenhouse plastic to my wooden  frame.

I don't buy juice cans, but I'm going to start saving used canning lids with this in mind!

People used to drill a hole and hang them as bird scares around gardens and fruit trees.
The movement and flash deters feathered "thieves" from hanging around.

My canning lids (and other lids) get washed and tossed into the right area: "New" can be used for canning; "used" but not damaged good for storage of things that do not require a solidly airtight seal; "abusable" lids that got bent or rusty or otherwise hurt.

My "abusable" category gets all type of damaged flat things, I cut out metal shapes from them, use them like huge washers (like the OP, although for other places than just greenhouse plastic,) and use them for really weird purposes sometimes like put under something heavy I'm dragging on cement to reduce friction, and have made scales for a costume out of them. Knowing I have a category of things I don't care what I do to them lets me get all kinds of weird creative. And I know where they are.

I have used different size can lids to patch holes in walls when we were younger.

These can be painted over and not look too bad.
