According to this study I've just found. Though to be fair it's people with whom you socially network, which is not the same as friends.

i am so grateful for those friends I have made on social networks such as this forum, have been helped a great deal by such friends..also hurt by some.

I am in a very very isolated area and internet is a great source of interaction for me.
