digital market affiliate tips

this is the thread for talking about how to be a great affiliate for the digital market stuff.

Tip 1:   set up a watch on the digital market forum.  That way, when new stuff is added to the digital market, you will get notified.

I was wondering how do you setup an affiliate link for the new digital market? I saw how you do it for the old marketing site - just add a reference bit to the end of the link. I also noticed on the page here where I setup my account that there is a code on the bottom left. I'm assuming that I will be adding that to the end of a link for a product I want to promote. Is that accurate? Is the system up fully at this point? Also, an example of how the address should be structured would be great.

You now have "an f-code".  

At the bottom of each thread in the digital market forum that is selling something, you should see a box offering your affiliate link.  

If the regular thread URL is:

https://permies.com/t/99999/delicious-fishes-the-movie

And your f-code is 7 (that's actually my f-code).  Then this would work:

https://permies.com/t/99999f7/delicious-fishes-the-movie

and this would also work:

https://permies.com/t/99999f7



And the description part is largely ignored in finding the thread - and the proper name will be used once you go to the thread, so you can fiddle with it all you want:

If somebody follows a link to permies with your affiliate code, that code is stuck into a cookie in their browser for 7 days, and if they buy anything, you get the affiliate cut.  Of course, somebody else's affiliate code could overwrite yours, the user can wipe their cookies ....  it is a cruel world out there for cookies, but it will probably survive most of the time.

Devaka will have a software update today that will show who the seller is and what the affiliate % is.

I was looking at the market the other day and I did not see anything that showed the affiliate % for the products. Is this up and running? If so where would I go to see that info? I'm working on a blog design and would like to include affiliate links / adds that would point back here. Thanks!

I ended up finding the answer to this - I was just not scrolling down far enough on the digital market place posts. For others who might have this issue if you keep scrolling down past all the comments on the products page if there is an affiliate option (make sure you are logged in and setup to be an affiliate) you will see the link at the bottom of the page. I was just not scrolling down enough and kept looking towards the top of the page for the link.

What do you all think about the affiliate link disclaimer requirement for here on permies? I'm thinking about when we make posts on here and in our signatures that include an affiliate link - do you all know if we need to also include a disclaimer like you do on your own blog site? It is easy to have a catch all affiliate disclaimer on a blog site but a bit harder on here - especially for signatures where we don't have a lot of space.

What do you all think?
