Please test: Gift digital market thread

A new feature we have right now is that you can gift premium thread access to someone else. As shown in the screenshot I attached to this post, there are is a link called "Buy this as a gift", both at the black box area, and at the bottom of a premium thread. When you click this link, it opens up a tiny box beneath it, where you can type in an email address where the gift should be sent to.

Then it will take you to Paypal to make the payment. Once you are done with the payment, gir bot will send an email to the email address you entered, with instructions on how to access their gift. Gir bot will also send another email to you (the sender) as a receipt, quoting the email that was sent to the gift receiver.

Thoughts?

Who would like to test this new feature?

It rolls open fine. I used the 'gift' link and it worked fine on opening the little box. If I wasn't so flat broke I would have continued to buy it for someone...

I set the "rocket mass heater care and feeding microdoc" to $1 for testing this.

There are two tests for this.



TEST 1:

Give the gift to somebody that already has a permies.com account.  (you might log out of permies and create a fake permies.com account to test this)


 
TEST 2:

Give the gift to somebody that does NOT already have a permies.com account.  (you might log out and end up creating a fake permies.com account to test this)



When you have done the test, please tell us all the details of how it went in this thread.

OK, I scrolled to the bottom, clicked on "buy this as a gift," was transferred to paypal and now I believe I've sent a link to Eliot for the RMH care and feeding video.  I'll have to ask him later today if he got the email and if the link works for him.

Just go to your personal ledger page, and then choose "DM threads - gifts I purchased". You should be able to see a list of all gifts you purchased along with the status indicating whether the intended recipient has accepted it.

I just gifted myself the video using another email and it all went smoothly. My alter ego received the email to sign up to view, and after creating the account I was at the main page without a quick and easy path to the gift.

Going back to the email was my solution, but I wonder if there is a way to have a link to digital media for those who have purchased some, and a link on the home page that takes you to it? Like when we get a moosage the link is there, so if digital media is added to your account a link could take the user to that?

Not sure if a dedicated page that has a list of links would work, or perhaps just a purple moosage for each digital purchase might do the trick. The receipt email could reference it too- "after creating your account, look for the moosage link at the top to find your digital goodies."
