the heating part where the pipe go with all the mass around. I havent been able to find any reason for it not to work, however i've not found any reason why it should neither.
Do you mean you want to make a J tube and riser in a barrel with a bench mass all the way around out in the middle of the room? If so then using a hollow bench instead of pipe in
cob would avoid restriction of elbows. You could have the exit manifold on one side of the J tube and the chimney flue on the other side. The back of the bench would be heated across an air gap by radiation and the air between the barrel and the bench if connected with a cold air return would circulate warm air to where the the return starts even in another room.
