This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in round wood woodworking.

This BB is similar to the sand-level sawbuck BB, it just needs to be constructed at a higher quality.

To get certified for this BB, post three pictures:

- Your chunks of wood that you are starting with
- Progress about half way through, with the hand tools you have decided to use for this
- List any power tools you used (Otis would love it if you only used hand tools)
- Final product (a decent looking sawbuck)

I started out with 3 limbed, peeled logs. I used a handsaw and chisel and hammer to shape them and create flat surfaces for the joints. Then I used a drill and paddle bits for making large holes for a dowel (whistles sticks) to connect each pair of Xs.

I had a lot of trouble getting them to stay upright for the next step of connecting the Xs! I pretty much had to re-cut all the bottom angles on the Xs and make adjustments in the joints. I also needed to limb and peel two more logs for the cross beams

Finally, they all stood at similar heights and I could connect them with saddle joints (cut into the connecting logs) and more drilled holes with pegs. It took 3 connectors to feel like the structure was fully stable. But it's ready to use! Peeling logs or bucking firewood. Lots of use ahead.
