I give this company 9 out of 10 acorns.

The Battery Tender company has been a staple for my family's trickle charger needs for years. Both my car and my motorcycle get quick attach clips mounted to the battery so I can hook and unhook easily. I've used everything from their bottom of the line plug in and ge two different lights style charger to one of their newer weather resistant battery tender line. I still have an older style charger that has been left out in the weather, ran over, beat up and has just quit recently after almost eight years of service.

I would recommend this company to everyone to consider for electronic chargers.

My motorcycle is on one now. A must for a bike that sits in the garage for winter. We sell them for bikes, snowmobiles, and even for airplanes that sit in a hangar for a period of time. With the price of a bike battery in the 100.00 range making it last is important.

Just curious , if some of the equipment being discussed is not being used for long periods of time such as over winter why wouldn't just unhooking the negative battery cable prevent battery draw?

Good question. I have been told that unhooked batteries can still drain slightly from things such as cold weather. I have to admit though, I installed the battery tender because it is more convenient on my end than to get to where the battery connections are on some of my stuff such as my motorcycle. The idea that the battery tender is keeping the battery in a topped off condition is just a bonus.

Even disconnected, a traditional lead acid battery needs to get a few electrons pumped back into them to keep up to snuff.  It varies depending on the age of the battery but a rule of thumb is  to start and run the rig every 2-4 weeks. An automatic trickle charger like a Battery Tender takes the place of having to do this. The vehicle sits and discharges from non-use or parasitic draws the tender charges the battery up and stops once it gets to the sweet spot of around 12.65 volts.
