This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Traditional Skills.

They didn't have paracord 400 years ago so what did they use to sew big things together like baskets or canoes?  Spruce tree roots!  Let's collect and prepare some for a future project!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Collect, prepare and store spruce root material
  - Debarked, coiled and dried
  - Splitting is optional
  - Total length of stored material is at least 100'
  - This bb can only use materials that existed 200 years ago

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The forest area you're harvesting from
  - Spruce root collection underway
  - Peeled roots laid out for measurement
  - Coiled and dried for storage

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
