This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the Straw badge in Traditional Skills.

If you need to cook something, it's a pain to have to wait for lightning to strike nearby.  Let's make a bow drill to start fires with!

Here's one way to do it:

Minimum requirements:
  - Make a bow drill fire making kit
  - Including the bow, string, bearing block, spindle and hearth board
  - Make the string from raw materials
  - Bearing block should be low friction.  Some options include:
       - Very hard wood
       - Rock
       - Antler
       - Metal
  - This bb can only use materials that existed 200 years ago

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The wood you're starting with
  - Shaping the board and bearing block
  - Finished parts
  - Video of you starting a fire with your kit

Once upon a time there were three bears. And they were visted by a golden haired tiny ad:
