Nice video. I have all the tools to do that stuff, but not the artistry

I hope it does well... when does the e-book come out?

I tend to be into tech things like the RMH, but in the long run, I think the earthworks stuff is more important.

About four days ago my long dormant ulcer decided to stop by and say hello. And you mention adding a book?

Bart and I have some very aggressive plans for this year. And I have a project in the hopper with Alexander too. And a few other others.

But we've taken some huge financial risks to move projects forward here at the lab - so we're hoping to get some serious stuff done. In fact, depending on how well this earthworks thing goes, we might actually get some really nice well drilling equipment.

I'm really nervous about this kickstarter. The rmh kickstarter did fantastic, but there were no rmh videos out. And I think that the interest in rmh is probably way more than the interest in ponds and hugelkultur. So will we get funded at all? Urk? We sure have put a lot of time into this.

I am guessing the podcasts are streaming. I would like to have the DVDs ($75 pledge) and the pods on thumb drive because I may be in an area where internet is not available. I did not see that option in the pledges.

I will only commit to providing streaming. Sometimes that comes with downloads - but I am not committing to that.

For the podcasts, those will be a download thing.

So, to clarify: the DVDs will be available on a physical DVD or streaming. The podcasts will be available as downloads.

I really like the idea of having a physical copy. Dvd is cool. Downloaded copy on a USB stick is cool too. I'll pledge mine next Friday. The video quality looks spectacular compared to the rmh dvds.

I pledged $60. I'd like to see this. I'd really like to see what someone would do with our 85 acres of desert. It's a strip of land that goes from 3200 feet in elevation to around 3700 at the base of a mesa. Lots of water comes thru during seasonal rains but i'm not so sure our trincheras and ponds that we've built in the arroyos up the mountain will do anything to keep water on the property and reintroduce hydrology because we have very rocky soil. The ponds were build with good clays but not sure what our possibilities are with the rest of the land.

If you're ever in the area - I think we could put together a workshop here and get a good turnout. Lots down here are interested in this stuff.

Got the DVDs. Just need someone to teach me the download thing. I know how to download, just can't find them later. Got a friend who does computer stuff maybe he won't cost too much.

The big grin after was supposed to mean I wasn't serious, or at least I didn't seriously think there would be a book any time soon. Ya ain't the book writing type I think.

Second, to be honest, those of us who do want books... want hard copy. Something that lasts "forever" even after the computer quits. Some of the self repairing file systems are amazing, but out of reach to most of us. Ya, I tar up my home directory every once in a while and send it over to my server, but I do make mistakes and have lost stuff before.

I'm in and will look forward to seeing my name under "people actually paid to see their name here".

At $125 it was pretty close to the rmh DVDs

Is there a card I can get stamped for each DVD set I buy?

The streaming option does not seem to give the person the ability to burn their own DVD set. Is there a reason for that? If I buy the DVDs, I could copy and whatever. So I don't see why it would not be possible to download the DVD image instead of watching from a website that means if web traffic is busy, there is choppy video. I would really like to be able to weld the videos to DVDs at this end. Does vimeo allow the videos to be downloaded? I would be happy just have the videos as files on DVDs or a USB drive. Most DVD players anymore will play files from a DVD or USB stick.

Crossing the border: Use USPS to send things to Canada. Not UPS! mail is fine. Also note that the value of the physical DVDs when the person has access to the files via streaming is only printing costs. (I am guessing from the price difference of $60 to $75 that would be $15) That would be the value for border crossing purposes. The receipt (there may have to be two) would have to list the streaming as $60 and the DVDs as $15 to keep the books legal and correct.

I know, too many questions.

Thinking I may have to upgrade from streaming package as I have variable internet depending on the severity of the trade winds, Saharan dust fallout, or what ever else is current theory on flickering internet. Will muse upon, as prefer to download things, but I guess I can copy DVD's and leave in Nova Scotia for the permie "Resource Library"? OK upgrade to DVD package it is. Hmm trust seamless process other than adding $15 to card, every day is a learning day.
A great project of use to my needs and one I am glad to support.

Cheers
Brian

Here are the FAQs that I have posted to the kickstarter:

Q: I hope to be able to share this with my kids. Will this contain any nudity or F-bombs?

A: I don't remember anybody being naked at this event.

Yes, there will be the full beauty of the English language. If you have been taught to fear words, then there are parts that will be a cringe fest for you.

The funny thing is that before the workshop started, several people actually expressed that they were looking forward to the "full beauty" part.

Q: If I choose the $60 reward, do I get the podcasts?

A: Yes. All of the rewards after "PODS" includes "PODS".

Q: Paul, I am a dinosaur. How does Kickstarter work? Am I essentially preordering the DVD set if I contribute?

A: Kickstarter is hated by banks. Before kickstarter, if these people wanted to start a business, they would have to grovel to a bank. Now people say "who wants a DVD?" and a thousand people buy the DVD six months in advance. The project is funded and the product is brought into existence. And the banks are pissed. Silly banks.

Interestingly enough, I was listening to the Permaculture Voices Podcast about this same project less than an hour ago!

Should be interesting to see some video to get a better idea of the project. Thanks for doing this!

With regards SPECIFICALLY to the Earthworks DVD set, could I show them as part of a PDC course. Some vids have licenses limiting them to public showings only if they are FREE events OR they have a different license that one must purchase to show it to ANY outside audience.

When in doubt about these things, I always ask.

The previous kickstarters were funded within 48 hours. It has now been four days and we are still not funded. And while we still have funds coming in, they are coming in very slowly.

This might be a good time to point out that we added something a bit unusual to this kickstarter. For everybody that shells out $24 or more, we will include a copy of all of my podcasts (well, except the political podcast) plus access to a secret hidden forum on permies. I think I added it up and buying those same podcasts from scubbly would cost $36.

I think timing is everything, Paul, and you're seeing a slower response because, a. we have already funded several successful kickstarters in quick succession (many of us are tapped out), b. the holiday buying season is past and the credit card bills are due (many of us are tapped out) and c. the holidays are over and many of us are back at work and thinking about that instead of bigger things.

All that having been said, this is still a great kickstarter - and with the podcasts thrown in, I'll definitely be signing on - after Feb 1, when I get my next paycheck :/ Don't loose hope!

Not sure if this goes in this thread but...

This is the time of year when people start planing their gardens and thinking about new projects for their land. A podcast on that type of winter planning might dovetail nicely with the kickstarter.
