This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEA curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Metalworking.

In this Badge Bit you will make a small box with a fitted lid from a beverage can.



Minimum requirements:
  - Made from beverage cans
  - Square or rectangular
  - Lid must be barely larger than the box so it fits somewhat snugly

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 mins):
  - Metal you're starting with
  - Project underway with the tools you're using
  - Finished box showing the well-fitting lid

I followed the instructions on this site: https://www.instructables.com/Drink-Can-Tinwork/

I used cm rather than inches so the large box is 3 x 3 x 2 cm and the small box is 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.75 cm

Here are the two sheets I started with, taken from the stack of fifty I made earlier today.



Marked out and scored the lid first



Made a pattern with the ball point pen



Cut out and before scoring corners and then ready for folding



Lid finished



Base scored



Base cut



One tiny box finished

Cargo bikes are cool

I thought that might come up because it’s so small. There’s only a millimetre of clearance. The tutorial I followed uses a significantly larger tin - he describes a 5 inch square and my sheets are only 3 inches wide from a regular 355 ml can.

I’ll make a snugger base and resubmit. Thanks Mike.

Thanks!  I'm not sure how to "show" that it's snug.  Maybe showing it halfway closed with the lid having a friction fit with the base?  Or a photo of it assembled and upside down so the gap between the lid and base is clearly snug?  Or a video?  I'm not really sure...
