Simple beginner bird house - PEP BB dimensional.sand.birdhouse

This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.

Birds are nice, let's build a house for them!

Warning - This video is exceedingly optimistic about what you can do in under 5 minutes.

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- build a simple beginner bird house
- a bird might want to live in it (maybe a really ugly and desperate bird)
- It won't kill the bird
- Made from wood, nails and/or screws - no glue
- 5" wide or greater
- Weather resistant design - for the bird and for the longevity of the house

To document your completion of the BB, provide photographic or video (<2 minutes long) of the following:
- Wood you're starting with
- Bird house under construction
- Bird house installed in its final location

Clarifications:
- A bit tung oil or linseed oil on the exterior is acceptable. Using rot resistant woods that don't need protection is about ten times better than using lesser wood treated with oil.

Here is my extra crappy birdhouse.

Cedar shake shingles.

Here's a crappy birdhouse. The first one I've ever built and I look forward to builging more. The nest box plan is designed for a variety of birds but the one I'm most familiar with is the cheeseburger bird (Chickadee). The plans state that it's standard for House Wren, Black=capped Chickadee, White-breasted Nuthatch, Eastern Bluebird, Prothonotary Warbler and Tufted Titmouse. Not sure if all those species are in Montana but I should find out in give or take a couple years.
Learned about a pivot nail. I installed two on the top right side of the box to open for access to clean and one at the bottom in front thats easy to pull out when I do clean it.
Used 1x6 lying around and nails that Fred rescued

Or just make another post with a picture of it oiled if editing doesn't work. Either way is fine!

I built a birdhouse for bluebirds. Found the dimensions for it in a book. I oiled it with grapeseed oil.

I made it so that the bottom can come out by removing some pegs, but I think it would be better to make it so that a side is removable instead. That way you can inspect the inside easier.

Scrap, off cuts of cedar from siding the house, 1 x 8 which i ripped down to make these bird houses with.
Solar power for using the table saw for ripping

Battery powered skill saw
hot dipped galvanized nails
yellow cedar shake
red cedar shake
Japanese pull saw
sand paper
Drill
Hole saw bit
