I saw a youtube video about building a birdhouse out of a fence plank. I thought, "I have some of those sitting around!" They're old, but it's my first birdhouse, so I'm not worried about it lasting forever. Although, I should have picked a plank that wouldn't have split on me. It's a little wonky and I don't expect it to last more than a season, but the next time I build one, with a new plank, it won't be so overwhelming. It may even be pretty and get painted! Haha!

Hello, I did this birdhouse before I knew about the BBs, so I don't have a picture of the wood before I started to build it, I hope it is ok, but it was just an old board of pine and a piece of (I believe) eucalyptus. Also, a bit of roofing from a doghouse that was downsized.

Here is my submission for "Simple beginner bird house - PEP BB dimensional.sand.birdhouse":

This one might win the prize for the ugliest bird house! I planned to follow the video, then realized the scrap wood I had scrounged from an outdoor pile near the cob cottage was 1 by 4 instead of 1 by 6, so I did some "creative" things to make it bigger. The result is well ventilated and has good drainage, and those are the only positive claims that I can make for it

I hung it under the eaves of an outdoor kitchen/materials storage roof, rather than use oil on such weathered scrap wood and such an ugly house. The bird box roof fully covers the walls, however, so if it is ever moved to an unsheltered location it will still keep the rain off any bird desperate enough to settle there.

I put on a birdhouse building activity for our home school group (any tips on how to work that into a community BB?). I spent about five hours milling up the lumber for 25 birdhouses. We distributed all but three at the "class." So, I decided to build one too!

The birdhouses were made of an assortment of softwoods (naturally rot resistant). This design is for chickadees and I got the plans from:

The bird house is mounted facing east (the birdos don't like the weather rolling in on a west facing nest box) about six feet off the ground near the apple tree.

This birdhouse was built with 1x6 scrap cedar boards and 1.5 inch screws.

First birdhouse.
Materials: cedar boards frkm the cull bin nails I had leftover from something (they were in the shed and therefore fair game), bit of old wire and a piece of dowel rod from another project.
