I found a version of this song in an old songbook--this has slightly different lyrics but am finding it's still a popular enough song!

I haven't much listened to them but enjoyed this album...

I was especially interested by the verse, "on a cool clear autumn evening, the whole family in the field, where they'll work all night in full moon light to gather in the yield". It is interesting to think about the moon phases that way, that it could be an indicator for when it's most useful for harvest.
