I was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for gear related to SKIP badges.

For example, I've gathered that not only do I need a froe to make shakes, I REALLY want one now too!  Do most people make their own or is there a suggested place to get one?

I suppose this could be a broader "buy it for life' tool suggestion thread as well... after years of apartment living and traveling I've finally got my own place and I'm getting my tool collection started.

First thread here by the way... loving all the information here!!

Hi Bill. Welcome aboard!

Since I love scrounging and creative frugality (even when I don't have to financially) I find that garage sales, estate sales and farm auctions are amazing sources for quality old-school tools. They may not look like much, but the quality is usually there. People bought for life back then, and it's in that sweet pile of rusty old steel that you can find genuine treasures. "Now what am I bid?"

Good idea!  I recently got a circular saw off of craigslist for $20 that is clearly from the 40s/50s... all metal and very heavy but it's still ticking!  Used it and a jigsaw to make the coop I just built... everything else was a) plastic b) 3x+ expensive.

I think there's a BB for making a froe.....

This guy is skipping without a rope. At least, that's what this tiny ad said:
