I was hunting cutworms today and found plenty (upper two bugs in the picture).  I also ran into some orange/brown bugs that I'm wondering about.  They have 6 or 8 legs, all in the front.  The back inch of their body they just drag along.  Anyone know what they are?  They are hiding under the mulch or just into the dirt in my garden.

Could that be a darkling beetle larvae?

With appropriate microbes, minerals and organic matter, there is no need for pesticides or herbicides.

wireworms. click beetle larvae (Elateridae).

they can mess with root crops pretty hard if there are enough of them. i had to scrap a delivery of sun chokes at one point because i couldn’t find enough saleable ones in a pretty big bed. bad for carrots, too.
