I am somewhat new to the forums. So I'd like to start by saying hi. Obviously there are allot of logistics and complexities that go along with an idea like this. I'd just like to give people a place to discuss this idea further. Someone in the last thread I read posted this link http://www.landshare.net/index/ . I am wondering if this couldn't be a sort of blueprint for expanding into more than just a hypothetically progressive idea. There seem to be allot of experienced people with extensive knowledge that are/have been doing do the permie thing long even before they'd heard of it. Then, there are those of us (myself included) who are like a sponge for this information and knowledge and would like to come along side like minded people to really make this happen. This could be a way of curbing the risk factor, while increasing manpower. Not to mention the motivational benefits that come from a group setting. Obviously with any fringe idea there are many potential hangups, but I think there might be some people who'd really like to try something like this and just need a place to find each other. Allot of us have huge dreams of bettering the world and teaching others to do the same, but need to work together with those that have gone before or maybe just don't have the gumption to undertake the endeavor on their own.

I think it's a really great idea. I think a lot of us will have significant trust issues to work through before we can get completely comfortable with the idea. I'm dealing with this presently. My husband and I will be sharing our land with my sister who is starting a nature day camp which she hopes to expand to a weekend camp experience. This means we'll have to be ok with having a bunch of strangers on our land for shorter and longer periods....

Well, if there's no u.s. landshare site, why can't permies fill that niche? Paul keeps saying how big the site is and how much its growing. This seems like the perfect place for people to find like minded growers in their area.

My girlfriend and I are trying to find other couples in our area that would want to buy land with us. Initially we've looked at our friends to see if they'd be interested, but most think our homesteading idea is silly. The rest love to fantasize about the idea but will not be able to save enough money in the next few years to actually buy in with us. So maybe the right person/persons is lurking around here?

I also posted in the thread OP shared. https://permies.com/forums/posts/list/40/16557 There I was saying that too many of us are committed to trekking out on our own to do this, and that this is too hard for one person or a couple to do alone. Think of Frodo. He needed an entire fellowship. Maybe Permies is where we go to build our own Fellowship?

I guess I could make a thread about my own situation and who we're looking for to buy in with us, but I think this topic is big enough to warrant its own section. A section called "landsharers" or "Homesteaders looking for Homesteaders" or something. There everyone who's planning to buy land makes their own thread stating where they're looking for land, what their plans are, and what kind of people they're looking to have buy in with them. Then others could search the section and find a match?

I think that is an awesome idea. Maybe take it one step further and get Permies to link up with Shared Earth. From what I have seen on the Landshare project, the success came from getting the message out to the masses. If Shared Earth is riding on the back of the Landshare Project, then why not let Permies ride on the back of Shared Earth.

I second that motion. I'd rather try and find someone that is already familiar with and intentionally seeking to do permaculture. It would be hard enough through that other site to find people in your vicinity not to mention finding ones with permaculture aspirations.

I think the best think to do is to start a thread in the tinkering forum where Paul will see it, with a link to this thread.

This is a good idea. I think it would carry more weight if it were someone with a longer tenure on this site. Perhaps you or Tyler would be willing to make the thread?
