BK (Blind Kitty) has lived on our front porch for a couple of months. He is well accepted by our other cats. One female outside cat actually looks out for him. As with all of our extended stay visitors, there is a price to be paid for too many free meals. The trip to the vet established he was blind.

This leads to a debate my wife and I are having. She wants him inside where he is protected, I want him outside where he is familiar with his environment. Opinions?

At my age, Happy Hour is a nap.

Personally, I'd probably offer him to option to come in and go out, as he pleases/ needs, checking on him occasionally, when he's outside. If he's an outdoor cat, that's probably where he'd prefer to be.

If it was me, I'd keep him in for maybe a week? Then if he's crowding the door to go out, let him in and out. Sometimes when cats claim a human or two they decide they're done with outside.

I feel the kitty will want to stay where his surroundings are familiar to him.

Taking the kitty inside where it is not familiar may cause the kitty a lot of stress.

Like Carla said, if it is possible to give the kitty a choice maybe leaving the door open so it can venture in would let you know which is possible.

Just asking to be 'ornary', are cats required to be kept separated from wildlife IE birds and lizards etc?
Its happening in Australia and some really neat setups where cats can wonder between a house and enclosed tunnels, caged areas are being created.

Anyway, BK has made it very clear he values his independence. .... as long as a free feed is available. Being inside a house is disorientating and just plain weird.

At my age, Happy Hour is a nap.

I am glad to hear that BK has made a choice and is happy with free food.
